Thumbs up Death Grip Hitch??

I was looking around on you tube the other day and came across the death grip hitch. For what the guy doing it says it does make sence ( for slippery smooth surface). I have tied it on a support pole in my garage and found it holds very nice, pulling down and streaght out.

Was woundering if anyone here has tried using it for any kind of work(not just being tree work). Seems as though it would hold a crap load of weight before the rope breaks or it slips.

Intresting hitch,it doesn't appear to be really practical though.

Well, those boat guys put a lot more on their hitches than we do, we just got our own weight to worry about but they got gear, anchors, sails etc which have a lot more force.

Be interesting to get some slip data comparisons used in prussik configuration on climbing and rigging line though.

Without facts we only got assumptions.

It might be good for lowering pieces where the bark is slipping.

good idea, but do not try it until it is a certified knot, stick to what you know.
"This is a precautionary warning only"

Score up the bark on smooth barked trees with your saw before you tie your knot or cut in a wedge for your rigging to grab onto.

On pieces with slipping bark,i tend to strip the bark where the rope will be tied,i also do my own variation of the clove hitch, where each leg gets 3 wraps, then i finish with 4 half hitches and a stopper knot, overkill, yes, but if it keeps a limb uot of a roof then i 'm all for it.
