Just wondering if anyone can make some recommendations about what shops to buy from and stay clear of when buying from the states/online? (yes I know I should be buying locally,But I am an apprentice and need to make my dollars stretch as far as possible) Currently looking at WesSpur?(cheap postage and decent range) but open to others? Thanks |

Another vote for wespur. I've ordered gear from them twice with no problems.

I have used wesspur a couple of times and its been hassle free. Someone at tafe told me if you spend over $1000 you might get charged an import tax. Im not sure if this is true or not

| If you go over $1000AUD including the shipping you will have to pay GST, Import Duty, and depending on how its shipped may need to engage a Customs Broker to do the paperwork and clear the item. This can easily add a few hundred bucks.

At the moment working on buying a new chainsaw(Stihl MS 260) went to my local Stihl dealer and he quoted me $1250, I asked if that was the best price he could do and he said come back in March and will give a free carry case and some oil. Gee how could I refuse an offer like that? Anyhow when I get home and check out what the MS 260 is worth in the US,$500 to $538 Id like to support local buisnesses but not at a premium 'price like that. Saying that can anyone tell me if there is a reliable USA dealer that will export to Australia please?Notice companies that sell equipment but not chainsaws. Have had a gut full of paying double in Australia for goods - seems we pay way too much for goods in Australia. |

Forget loggerbob, he's banned. Soliciting business without paying dues does that.

Well, that's what he was doing except not paying for a store, or advertising. ![]() I have maintained a consistent position on this. Rule 2.2 explains it. Basically if you are here making a buck from the front line pay for advertising. He was getting US saws and on selling them at a profit, likely too (not confirmed) from members he met here. If you get along with some-one well and arrange for them to buy you a saw and ship it .... well and good. But if you think you're going to make a quid by repeating that with a margin to other people here ... get well stuffed and banned!

I agree with Eric, we have paying sponsors here who are up front in all their dealings, then we find people who try and sap suck off the forum...using the good will of our members for profit and making a joke out of our sponsors ! For a small investment fee, and it's meager the amount, I'm not even going to mention how much it is, they blow their good name by doing back room deals, deals which we detect because we protect our interests and our sponsors. ![]() So if you want to make a couple of dollars off the forum be up front and pay the advertising fee and away you go...up front....transparent...and the world turns one more time....

I got a surprise package from Wesspur the other day. I had ordered a foot ascender and lanyard. It got delivered along with a second box full of whoopies and slings which i didnt order. After looking through the paper work it was for a fella in South Aus. Luckily he was easy to find in the online yellow pages and Australia Post took it and sent it to him free of charge. Wesspur had put both packages on the one shipping notice by mistake. I was mighty impressed that the local Aussie post sent it to the right fella free of charge! |

I bought a Stihl 066 a few years ago in Aus and when I got home and opened up the goodie bag that came with it, stapled to my receipt was the internal receipt for all the saws, blowers, hedge trimmers that had come up on the same order from wherever Stihl stores its gear in Aus. I can't remember the exact markup but I remember being sickened. I know retail is a tough business but still... or should that be 'stihl'. |

Stihl have stores and support their stores by saying no internet sales. So some-one pretty much has to physically walk in and buy.

He has changed his strategy though! Now he doesn't advertise them as Stihl, or mention any model numbers in his ad. He just says "new whatever size cc chainsaw" but the photos clearly show saws marked as Stihl & carrying Stihl model numbers on them!

I'm currently in the process of getting a shipment sent from honey bros. I originally was looking at ordering from the states considering how strong the aussie dollar is, but the shipping for what i wanted was going to be huge, and for basically the same set up from the UK the shipping was way cheaper, plus so far the service has been great...

I have found Honey Bros very good to deal with. Although I like to support local businesses as much as I can afford, I will often get my overseas sourced stuff from Wespur and Baileys. never had an issue with freight/postage costs. delivery usually petty fast too. I have not had much luck buying off the net from Sherrill, despite terrific range of arborist items and competitive prices. The freight costs I have been quoted have been way over the top. never understood why, but did wonder if is related to having a retail outlet connection in Aust. They have some specialist items i would like to acquire and I appreciate their detailed catalogue and supporting information on many products. Maybe I will give them another go next time. Red |
