My back yard is a rock hill about 60 degrees steep. It is full of very small trees and bushes. At the top of the yard I have some large trees. I want a way to tie a rope line to a large tree and ascend and descend the hill to cut down the small growth and small trees at least once a year. I have done this several times in the past but I have never had the right equipment. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?? |

I use drt[double rope technique]for belaying, sounds like that might not be you best option but doing it that way all you need is a climb line and a harness.I'm sure there will be others on here with all kinds of ascenders and such.

Newguy, after all these years, do you still not know that DRT means TWO ropes? Double rope technique, double, TWO. Doubled rope technique takes on two forms, DdRT, which is a 2:1 technique and is what Newguy is really referring to. And there is DbRT, or twin line. And then my true love SRT. You can be using double rope .... and you don't refer to it as a rope technique because two ropes being used, each line can be employing single rope technique. Newguy, I'm not bustin your balls. This is standard industry nomenclature and you've been in a number of threads that discuss this in detail. For more information on these three methods and their distinctions, refer back to Dr Storrick's new tree devices |

That being said, Alan's clear description says, Quote:
That is one suggestion, simple, straight-forward and cheap, but there are dozens of ways to approach this. Since this is an on-the-ground issue, your requirements are the most basic of basic. To see pictures and detailed descriptions from the very simplest, on up, again, I'd refer you to Dr Storrick's new tree devices. | |

I tend to agree with tree machine here. I use my rock climbing harness, some tree master rope, and a webbing loop prusik when I clean gutters.
