I'm thinking about saving the money on a bigshot and the gear there by making a home made set up for a while. Conduit pipe Devised fork Fitness device rubber tubing Twine of some sort Big, lead fishing weights I know to order a proper set up from Sherrill or what not I would spend at least $250. I could get into this rig for $50-$75, and have all of the reserve strings and weights for when I get hung up in the trees. Anything similar to this done before? |

I wonder what the guy made it out of. One guy told me to make it out of a forked stick. Yikes! I can only imagine the pain. I'm thinking I should just improvise with a ordinary sling shot, or buy and weld/torch some metal for the fork to slide securely onto the pole. I already bought a few rolls of string from the DIY section at the dept. store. 225' for $2.50 US each. Just for experimenting sakes, I'm going to see this thing through. |

Doesn't seem like it would be terribly difficult to make one. You can even buy the replacement pouch and tubing set for $23 From Sherrill and fabricate the rest.

Ekka, the Harbor Arpoon is too far out of my league. The police really would roast see that in my hands and motioning my hands at them, "No, no, it's not what you think." ![]() | |

Hey guys. Very interesting discussion about launching devices. When I was with the fire department we had a Line Gun, or Lyle Gun (named after the guy that made the gun practicle, not the original inventor). It's purpose was to launch a brass projectile, 45 caliber if I remember correctly, about 3/8 inch (45 cal.?) in diameter and 6" in length. The projectile was loaded directly in the end of the barrel. A heavy cotton cord was attached to the projectile and the cord fed out of a "can" mounted under the barrel. I've only fired the Lyle gun once in practice. The gun was aimed at about 80 degrees. The cotton cord was burned off from the muzzle flash. The projectile went over the 5 story fire training tower and landed at 2nd base of the junior college baseball field, about 500' away. We reloaded, wet the cord and the cord stayed attached to the projectile. The gun's purpose was to get the cord to a victim; the victim can then pull the cord up along with a rescue line attached to the end. There are many references to line guns on the internet. Just type in Lyle Gun or Line Gun. Good Luck, Don |
