Hi all, I have been asked to look at a job where an energy provider has sent a client a letter saying that the foliage around the private powerpole must be cleared. The client mentioned that there is a big gum about 1 mtr away from the pole. The council is Hawksbury (NSW, Australia) the clients question to me was do they need to seek council approval to remove the trees or is the energy providers letter enough? I am getting a copy of the letter tomorrow however from whats been described it doesnt identify any trees nor distances it just states the area must be cleaned up What do you guys think? |

I would check with council if the client wants to remove it, I doubt a letter from the power company can act as a permit (if one is needed) for tree removal. How close are the branches to what kind of wires?

I just got back from looking at the job, there is a euc about 1 fot away from the wires and a black wattle which has grown around the wires and is touching The wires are 3 phase abc from the consumers pole to the authority pole. At the cunsumers pole to cables transfer to be under ground. Seeing its a rainy day it Sydney today it will give me time to look up the TPO and send an email to the council |

He should only have to prune to maintain minimum clearance distances. The power company is responsible for the wire to the first point of contact inside the private property, so if there is only 1 pole and there's foliage between that pole and the street pole, it's the energy companies pruning around the wire for that span. Pruning around wires can be done even on protected vegetation for electrical clearance, it's in the Act here as power comes first, trees second.

[QUOTE] This was my understanding to. In this instance there is only one power pole. The client is going to follow it up on monday |
