| Neighbors angry about man's massive tree - Boing Boing Neighbors) have launched a formal complaint under antisocial behaviour legislation to force him to cut back the vast leyland cypress trees completely filling the front garden. Planted in 1991, shortly after the 66-year-old moved into the area, the famously fast-growing trees – better known as leylandii and the source of countless previous neighbourly disputes, some turning violent – are now more than 10 metres tall. As well as completely obscuring the front of Alvand's home, their higher branches overhang his neighbours' roofs, as well as the pavement. One neighbour said: "That wall took years to sort out. It's been a nightmare. Now the trees are an eyesore – they block out sunlight and make the street look bad." Last edited by Eric Frei; 5th November 2010 at 08:45 AM. Reason: added pic |

hahahahahahaha!!!! Well, as long as it is on his property, I guess it's within his rights to have the privacy. How the hell he can live in that dark house I have no idea. However, I have seen more offensive gardens, ie. the ones with three tonnes of gleaming white river stones and two pots of Agaves. As for the 'sunlight' being blocked to the neighbours' places... in England.. What sunlight? hahahaha |

Ive seen and removed these trees at around 65 - 70 feet they have a real tendency to snap out too bloody weeds, the neighbours wont be able to plant any thing due to the trees taking all of the nutrients and water and the roots around the house will be bordering total invasion.

That would no doubt be damaging the structural integrity of the house. Is there a pic taken from the other side? I wanna see where his door comes out. |

I think he could trim the sides - his house side as well - keep an arborist company in business for yearly maintenance - and if there is a door, cut an entrance to it. As long as it stays on his side of the property line, and doesn't interfere with the structures of the neighbour -- more power to him. At least the neighbours on either side will have shade part of the day, -- an he is certainly guaranteed privacy! |

It's done, but this guy planted 16 of them in his front garden 20 years ago. Towering 35ft tree given the chop after being left to grow out of control for 20 years | Mail Online Quote:

"But now Mr Alvand has finally caved in employing a gardener to hack the trees back to a mere 6ft - a job which took just one hour." I'd say hack would be the right word if it only took an hour. |

Problem is you don't really win by having them cut back after being there long term they have shaded and kept the house damp them there gone and the house is dry warping roof trusses and walls,Ive seen it plenty of times.
