There's not even an Australian Standard.

What exactly are you trying to figure out?

Hi Eric,
I was just after any info about liability, It seems to be a bit of a grey area as we might still have duty of care as professionals even if owners choose not to maintain devices

True so document & file the job. Or don't advocate a temporary fixture.

Do your job, leave the worry for the insurance company.

Do it to best practice, ensure the right SWL was used and move on.

Never ever say it's guaranteed to work or be safe. It is a method to lower the probability, there's no absolutes but there is common sense.

But surely once cabling, bracing is introduced there must be a duty of care to let the client know there are ongoing maintenance checks and therefore future obligations for them at least if not the person / company that did the install

I done cable and rod bracing 1984 on big trees over city streets and high use grounds. Nup never been back to check & little or no explanation to owners given of ongoing responsibility.
Even today we can say what should be done but over time if just gets forgotten. This is why I prefer to avoid this stuff treat it as last option or stop gap while new trees are planted and established to take the declining one place.

My last was a little Pear splitting (as they do) I used 12mm nylon threaded rod n bolts. It will hold & not bring grief to the blokes saw that finds it. 3 new trees planted beside so in 5 years the crap one can go.
