Is it me or does this document contridict itself? Seems to me as if you have a major battle on your hands dealing with this kind of legislation.... It makes a note of protecting all signifcant trees in the urban landscape but outlines only a handful that are protected!!! what happens to the rest of the 800 species of gum tree??? why only those three??? what a joke!!!!

This is one of the most confusing VPO's around, basically you ring up for every property and most have nothing but some have 4 different VPO's ... simplicity is the key to success.

So are trees protected by annual survey? or does the property owner ring to confirm the tree as protected? how do they keep up with new plantings and removals?

You ring up for your property, they used to have an online facility but often it's not working ... trouble was it wasn't accurate and you looked up a property and it said it was clear then get out there to find council people stopping you.

Not all their VPO's are on the same system apparently! Where development has occurred (subdividing a block say) then newly protected trees are on another system.

They herald it as one of the best but when didn't you find a bureaucrat self indulgent with complexity and paper shuffling?

Paper shufling and avoiding the general public is a real skill ! sounds like a typical situation, one department avoiding the other so they dont have to make conversation What a wonderful world of red tape and P.C. bull$*#t we live in......

What a wonderful series of laws you got to deal with Eric,Theres only 2 situations i need a permit or city approval for,
1.When useing a crane to remove a tree
2.when shutting down a roadway or walkway in order to land limbs, tops,or blocks of wood in the road. Also have to have 2 traffic controlers on site.
Anything else is basically have fun.

I couldn't find the thread I was looking for about local councils to show this so this looks like a good spot, look out!

They know where you live: big council is watching you - Technology - smh.com.au

There is a paragraph missing after "detailed aerial photos"

"We can see anything bigger than 10 centimeters by 10centimeters" said City of Sydney's spatial information co-ordinator, Mathew Dobson. A number of councils have E-Veiw or similar programs.
