how can I wash off the oil effectively. White spirits, thinners???

It looks as though the WD-40 has killed the little blighters, the limpet (scale insects) type critters are turning a dark orange and beginning to drop off.

Mind you, so are some of the leaves.

Don't suppose we'll see any fruit this year then.
