Haha
We did it. They sent a 55T crane to.
But didn't do it the way we liked.
You see, the crane guys sent their dogger dude who had different ideas to us. We were over ruled, and frankly it sucked. No 2 chains for a straight lift. The dogger insisted on a half hitch under the head and a girth hitch/chain toward the bottom. This means tilting.
He was paranoid about it inverting, however his idea wouldn't prevent inverting. Simply putting a half hitch in the chain below the head and a girthed end further down wont stop inverting.
Our tag line on the but helped control it extremely well and the guy was impressed but not budging.
So, my advice is get your doggers ticket so you can do it your way.
Also, the crane had 40m boom without fly. He could have set up in the middle and nabbed the three but no, didn't happen. So 2 set ups easily ate away 1hour. It takes ages to set up.
At full boom, boom at 45 degrees he could have lifted 2.5ton ... but no way was it that far. The heaviest palm was 1.6T
On the positive side they were punctual, organised all the paperwork and traffic control, easy going guys.
Their bill was close to $1100
Anyway, I told you these were big. For those of you who know palms check this out.
Jim is 6' tall.
