You'll be surprised how much you have in common with some people on here.
For instance, I'm a fitter and turner by trade, 8 years, plus did a years post graduate study in engineering but you know ... stuck in factories just wasn't for me.
Many mechanical background people work in trees, advantaged by conceptualizing and problem solving skills. People like us understand loads, have grounding in sound mechanical principles .... like I always just knew the sheer in a 1/4" dia steel pin was 6000kg and the nut on a thread is usually the length that the equals the bolt dia ... yada yada yada.
Then we mix our "work" with our passion "trees" and do some great stuff ... but then there's the tree learning curve, plant biology etc, now unlike engineering that stuff never ends! Always a new pest, new disease, new fungi, new way to treat and old fungi, new species discovered etc and such diversity around the globe unlike the uniformity of engineering mechanics and principals.
Anyway, enjoy the site, and we're always on the look out for crossover ideas.
