Be aware that when you lift these pieces you are compressing your spine then twisting to throw into the target area. I suspect you are aware of this as the pieces were small, occasionally I find when I'm rushing I have a bad habit of taking too large a piece and struggling with it.
I am always amazed when I am back on the ground trying to lift the pieces I threw down, only to find they weigh nearly twice as much as they did in the tree! Must be adrenaline or something that gives you the extra strength.
When there are targets that could be damaged I try to rig down the whole stem as much as possible, I find it quicker as I can take one piece which would be the same as 4 or five smaller pieces.
Depends on the tree really, if I can do step cuts or notches and just push the sections off I will.
Your ground guys did well controlling the rope through portawrap.
How long did you have to train them to let the pieces run properly? |
