Like the title says what is the origin of the commen name for this tree: Black Butt?
I was orginally told it was because of the dark sock on the lower part of the trunk. With these trees being about 70% of gum trees I remove I have two other theories where the name came from.
Ever noticed how the tree absolutely STINKS when you start cutting it?
Well perhaps they named it after the guys that didn't wipe their butt properly?
Or when the british first came and colonised New Holland they named it after the Aboriginals because of their poor hygiene at the time (good majority of them that live in my area still don't have good hygiene

)
This is just something that's been pondering on my mind for quite some time now...
