Yeah, but this guy was 80 years old.

I think they get stingier as they get older and value their life less, true.

I quoted an old guy yesterday, he wanted some stuff done .... all ground felling of small trees (easy). He had 2 cocos palms and told me not to worry about them, he goes up the ladder and does them himself ... one of them had 3 service wires beneath and the fronds lying on them.

Old people, scrimp every way they can many times and do put themselves in harms way to save a buck.

Down the Gold Coast (old farts capital of Australia) I recall working on a canal and across the water was a load of carry on, ambulance guys, cops etc but too far to make out what was going on. Read in the paper next day pensioner fell from ladder while cleaning palms and died!
