Last updated: Fri 9 May 2008

An 80-year-old man has died in a tree felling accident at Heathcote.

Police said the 80-year-old man was reported missing to Bendigo D.24 about 9.45 pm. last night.

As a result of this information a police unit from Heathcote went to a small weekend property the man had at Dealba Road, Heathcote.

Police and neighbours started looking for the man and found him dead, about 20 metres from the back of the house, just after 11.00pm.

Police said the man had been using a chainsaw to cut trees.

It is believed the man died after he was struck on the side of the head by a 5 metre tree branch he had cut from a eucalypt tree.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner in relation to the man’s death.

The name of the dead man who comes from Port Melbourne has not been released.
