Default Concerned for our industry RE Training, AUSTRALIA

Ok first off sorry if this sounds a little but it really annoys me.

The local TAFE is pumping out "Arborists" at a phenomenal rate, the quality of the training is very poor in my opinion. one of the problems seams to be that the training can now be done on site! There is no need for students to come to classes.

It wasn’t that long ago that i did my training at a university. The training was excellent, Training and testing was rigorous and those that past came out experts. That particular uni is no longer providing arb training, im not sure why, Iv heard lots of rumours.

The assessment criteria for cert 2 cert 3 and cert 4 in arboriculture have been changed and dulled down. so its not entirely TAFE's fault.

I would like to know if this is unique to my area or a common issue?

Is it that the TAFE colleges need to make money or at least break even?

When I ask questions at TAFE i am told that its “What industry wants” and TAFE provides what the industry wants.

I am concerned that the industry will suffer in the long run!
