The "T-BELT" orange warning light came on yesterday in my Toyota Dyna as soon as it hit the 200,000km mark.
I wondered if this was normal and it is a reminder that the Timing belt is due for renewal, or does it mean there is a problem with it right now?
I am aware that there are a few mechanics on this forum so would be glad of any advise.
I also spotted this tip and wondered if anyone else had done a T-Belt change this way:
"There is a trick if you don't see any timing marks as follows:
Strip engine covers etc to the point where the timing belt can be removed.
Remove glow plugs, to enable the engine to be turned by hand.
WITHOUT removing the old belt cut it LENGTHWAYS using a craft knife (by carefully turning the engine by hand), you will then have in effect two half-width belts still on the drive wheels.
CAREFULLY remove the OUTER half belt and replace it with the new belt (which initally will only go on half way)
Then carefully remove the INNER half-belt (you will need to cut across it)
Then by gently turning the engine by hand feed the new belt fully on to the timing gears.......HeyPresto job done!
The idler can be carefully replaced with the new belt in situ."
