Yeah I think it's called a Hygrometer (hydrometer?) something like that... little gadget my landlady got to check her batches of wine. But some of the ones just for wine aren't calibrated for higher proof stuff.

If you do it right, your final batch will end up in the mid to high 90's and you dilute from there.
