I know how to do it with wine, [a bit complicated] and beer, but I'm not sure about distilled stuff. Maybe try a wine Hydrometer, they're cheap & give a close result.

I have 1 bottle of Carrot Whiskey left that I brewed in 1990, that was great stuff, but I can't open the last bottle.
