I built an indoor still a couple years ago that worked beautifully. Used a 5 gallon HDPE bucket with lid, a smaller container on the inside with a plastic plate, and a immersion heater that you can dial in the temp on. Heater sits down in the mash and cooks it, the stuff forms on the ceiling and walls and slides down and collects at the bottom.
Do three batches and take the three runs, add em together and do it all over again. You can get up to about 96% or so... and it's a closed system. Can run it in your bathroom or closet.
Therrin, how do you find out what proof your alcohol is? I would just let the batch run till it wouldn't burn anymore. Nice going on the self contained model.
