Default Re: Fueling Tips

Thanks, I usually buy in the morning, handy having a servo just down the road.

It's $1.45 litre here.

Maybe we should convert this thread to a fuel saving tips thread ... rather than just biarch

1/ I fitted one of these devices to my stump ute and stump grinder, they're cheap and makes sense. I cannot give exact details as to improvements but it appears and feels to work.

Fuelstar - less fuel cleaner air

2/ Another top tip guys, check your tyres, down on air pressure means more drag/friction etc so I go to the higher pressure extremes, 45psi in my tyres and trailer.

3/ Most cars etc are injected these days. Lots of bullshit products that clean injectors on the market, just add to fuel, around $10 .... lots dont work, is a con. Inlaw is a motor mechanic, simply took the injectors out and dropped them in the ultrasonic cleaner, blew out an fit ... major improvement. That gum needs to be vibrated off. Results were tested with exhaust analyser and proved correct.

This is a real dumbing down, if you get the injectors out yourself and get them cleaned it wont cost hundreds of dollars, some are very simple to remove.

4/ Oil, yes engine oil.

I can say that the lower viscosity and synthetic give better performance and better mileage.

If your vehicle can run a 5W - 15W then run it, dont get a 10W - 30W for instance. Modern engines are designed for lighter oils than the old bangers of the 70's with their 20W - 50W ..... I can say even a blended synthetic shits on the good ole dinosaur oil. You can buy 5L of blended for around $35 ... fully synthetic is around $60 but dino crap as cheap as $20 (and even less at times)

5/ Leaky exhausts, dont know why but you'd think if there was a hole in the muffler or pipe and gas getting out it would make things better. Not so, and buggered if I know why, get a good quality performance flo muffler and fix any leaks.

Stopped at the lights? Long time for the red to change to green? Stick it in neutral, if you have a manual get ya foot off the clutch and give it a rest, for auto's, just get used to bumping it into gear before you flatten it.

6/ Airconditioning, been long proven is better on fuel than driving with windows down.

7/ Colder fuel is denser fuel, better performance. I have noticed modern engines run quite warm compared to the old bangers. The engine bay is choked with bullshit and the radiators have lots of fans, aircon coils, trans coils etc. Try to improve airflow beneath the bonnet (hood for yanks), and snorkels for air are premo!
