Default Re: Which is more important?

And Wind!

I am NOT a radical environmentalist, I prefer to call myself logical. I was watching a program on CBC Canada the other night (Please don't tell anyone) on the global climate. It seems that if your not being encroached upon by a desert, your likely being washed down stream by a mud slide.

In the recent past the fires in SOCAL and (I think) Germany, wildfires destroyed not only the trees, but the understory also. One year later, when the rains came, the hills were being washed down the valleys. There is a delicate balance, and interference by mankind might make the world flat.

The solar panel generating folks probably have their heads in the right place, by learning self-reliance. BUT I find it hard to believe that they can't find another spot in their yard to place the collector panel. We have had hundreds of calls to prune trees for satellite dishes. The most memorable one is a woman who told us she tried the dish everywhere. I looked around and saw that IF she would of had another 10' of wire, OR ran the existing coax a different route, she could make it work. NOPE, she had to have it working by that evening. I was instructed to cut down one of the nicest Green Ash trees I have ever seen. By the time the chainsaw was cool and the brush was chipped, she was back out in the yard to tell us it still didn't work. The trees that were on the south boundary of her property were a issue also. Thank goodness that they were within the limits of approach of the power line, I didn't have to help anymore in her attempt to deforest her yard.

Since this incident, I have made it MY policy that I will NOT cut live trees for couch potatoes. This job really opened my eyes as to the way of things to come. She NOW doesn't have any valuable shade trees in her yard, her kids sit ALL the time watching TV, and the air conditioner runs 24/7.

Yup, I helped in screwing up the next generation of leaders. NO MORE!
