Please, try to upload to our server, however resizing prior to is wise. I often resize for people and frankly can reduce the file size up to 70% with no real human eye noticable change to the image (depending on file type as BMP is the worst).

I use Picasa, however in Picasa (free from google) you must export the pic or save the changes for the changes to actually occur. Many do stuff ot the pic and then load it but it loads as the original because Picasa keeps the original intact and you are viewing your changes. Smart Really. So do your stuff to the pic then export it and then load the export.

Good thing about Picasa is the original stays the same behind the scenes. And has a one button "I'm Feeling Lucky" button which 99% of the time makes the pic sweet. I think they got that idea from Clint Eastwood.
