See, now that is just blatant ignorance and those cowboys should be prosecuted.

I would go and visit the customer and have a very friendly chat.

I'd subtly ask if they were happy about the tree work and got what they requested.

If they got exactly what they wanted (customer asked for topping) I would then ask them if the tree company tried to talk them out of it.

I would then find out who the company was, if they're a member of an arb organisation and dob them in, I would also leave literature with the customer as to the damage done and an offer to assist in either the prosecution or witness to civil damages case. What pruning standards does the area have? Same as UK?

For example, the whole of Australia has AS4373, so no matter where that's the angle of attack for crap like that here.
