Hartley,

unfortunately, although you're UK drivers licence allows you to drive a 7.5 tonner, this will not transfer over to you're Aus licence if you decide to get one.
However, you can use your UK licence here for up to 1 year, so if you are only staying for a short while that may be the way to go.
