Here's some cases where it's breached copyright and getting sued.

And what some are doing is getting a subpoena against Youtube to reveal the identities of the persons uploading material then suing them.
But it appears some of the large music makers are working with YouTube for a fair deal and gonna let off the amatuer video makers using their music for their videos in return for some advertising revenue.

So the heat is on, copyrighted material, defamation, breaking laws of countries like insulting Turks etc. The pulling of 30,000 Japanese videos means something too.
I read on many places I visited that adding music to your video clips is small fry and chances are no-ones going to persue it ... however that depends on the content of the video too I bet and if you're making money out of it.
