IMO the only way to fight this stuff is (1) learn as much researched data as you can cram into your head (2) Get credentialed (3) fight the battle from the inside, join or create your local forestry board (4) get ready for a long battle (have a lot of patience)
Might add (5) stick your mug in front of the newspaper or tv camera whenever poss. and start flapping your lips.
