Of course spiking it will damage it (to some degree). But what is your intent? Do you need to take some dead fronds off? Do you have spikes? You obviously have a bucket truck. Do you know someone who was going to use spikes on it? What did they say about it? etc...

Therrin, come on man take it easy, you are starting to come across as a sarcastic D$#k.
