I tried it today. Although you run a chance of the round falling befor your ready i never cut near the center. Going maybe 80% of the way in. It took less effort to push the piece off. I made the width of the hinge thinner by making two side cuts..The same cut one would make to stop side pealing from occuring. The only reason for the test is that I left my felling bar at my dads house (1800 miles away). Its a 3 ft/ 1 meter long felling bar made by husqy. Works great. The other, I guess was to save time from having to tie a rope on the top of the piece.
