Hey I burn the ends of those ropes instead of tape, get it all nice and bubbling goey then with a leather glove on mold it into a nice dome ... a hot knife would be good but a cigarette lighter doe the trick too.
Stopper knot on the tail of hitch, don't you get any creep?
