See them all the time here too. I don't think homeowners realize how potentially dangerous they can be when they are dead and left like that. A dead tree can stand for years (not that I'd ever recommend it), but with palms it's a crap shoot. And even when they're mush, they can pack a whallop when they fall.
I especially like when the buds are filled with palm weevils and when the plant is felled, this nasty stank permeates the air and bugs go everywhere. I know I shouldn't, but I like those critters. They're my favorites.
