Hey thanks for the wlcome all. Ekka I have much from your vids on other sites. Then I found this site. Haven't looked around much but I am in the process. As to your questions on spikes. It depends on the circumstances. Like I said, I work transmission lines. Out in the bounies we climb with spikes. Private work some with or without. Depends on the customer. I know this is dangerous ground for spikers. There is technique to useing gaffs.
As to minimize damage to the tree..I say go up like a cat, out like a squirle, down like a spider. In utility work it is saftey, quality, quantity. You can get safety, and quality spikeless. But you wont get quantity. As for service drops. In our area it is up to the home owner to take care of them. You have to be certified an insured to cut with in 10 ft. of primary lines. Service wires sould be handled with care by a professional. When asked, I tell home owner to hire a professional tree service. Most of the time they ask if I would do it."
