yes your notch was a little bit of an angle but as for depth on some trees espically back leaners I picked up a trick from the fundamentals of general treework.After you install your ropes make an undercut halfway through the trunk and make 2 diaganol cuts one conventional one humboldt and purposly overshoot them.You"ll need to use and axe or wedges and a hammer to get the notch out but it allows a thicker hinge so it can go farther over before breaking the hinge.Just a thought.
