Default Re: Nigerian BS Email

Trolling for information. I get them regularly, for about 5 years now. Several flavors:

1) African son/daughter/wife of deposed dictator with millions US
2) Asian company looking for US bank accounts to deposit millions into
3) UK or Irish lottery winning in the millions US that I won (but never bought a ticket for or heard of)
4) Italian endowment wishing to give me a several million dollar grant

All the same: Give them information, they will ask for you to open a bank account with severl hundred to several thousand dollars (just to open the account mind you). Or better, they like you to have a Paypal account. Then they ask for access to that account so that they can deposit the millions in US funds into it. Of course, theya re really going to withdraw whatever you were dumb enough to put in there for them to take. Of course even if you do not open the bank accounts, they have information on YOU that they can sell as a target for other frauds (read below).

Similar fraud schemes are that they ask you to open Paypal or other US bank accounts and deposit checks into. They then take their 80% 'cut' out of your account and you get to 'keep' the 20%. Of course, the checks are all bad, and after a month the FBI will be knocking on your door, and you will be lucky if you do not do time in jail. Parallel scheme is that they deposit checks into your Paypal accounts for you to buy stuff for them on Ebay and online retailers and send overseas. In some cases they even 'hire' you as an employee of an off-shore company and pay you with bad checks/credit into your Paypal account to launder the bad checks into cash and merchandise. Or they send merchandise to you at your address that they bought online using a stolen credit card and you are supposed to divvy up the stuff and send it to them overseas.

Beware Tarzan, its a jungle out there!
