a few years ago I noticed the decline of health of a mature lime on the street corner in a nearby town. Dark stains were visable on the trunk even from a distance so i went to have a look. Large holes had been bored into the trunk and the smell of creoasote was very strong. What had been happening was the resident who lived near had been sneaking out at night and filling up the holes in a attempt to kill the tree, because "he didnt like the leafs in his garden". I found that out because my friend lives nearby and was friends with the man.

I was straight on the phone to there council, the creosote stopped and the tree is looking in fine heath again!
