Very sorry to hear about the "Sitka Spruce" but even with such a massive failure through the stem it could well be a new beginning for the next generation of seedlings through the next 700yrs and beyond, clearly the lightning damage 40yrs ago created a defect at around 80feet up that would eventually fail.
