Re: your take on pruning with spurs on When I learned I put on spurs and when to top
tied in and pulled overhang not most peoples
first tree. I climbed on them all through the eighties
and the truth as I have seen it the trees heal well
to reasonable spurring. I have done different climbing
since but at times still prefer to gaff. I have seen
climbers that have given gaffs a bad name and after
they go up looks as if a group of grizzly bears climbed
them! I don't wear them most trims but being that
90% of my work consists of removals caused by oak wilt
and pine Beatles I wear them a lot! I personally have never
seen a gaffed tree die as result of spurring I have seen trees
that had a worse condition die and was blamed on spurring!
Most trees I have used gafs on were on a five year trim cycle
and old gaf marks were barely visible if visible ant trees were
healthy as any. |
