This thread specifically deals with a tree that already HAS the holes, and that nature HAS already provided...
That still leaves the question, for this particular tree, would circulating water through it the other 6 months of the year be detrimental or not?
I'm not certain about the relevancy of "lead" that TreeCo mentioned. For example, if a grove of birch or alder in the Columbia River Gorge were snapped-off due to ice, and an arborist re-structured the naturally topped trees, would that "LEAD" to people topping trees? And should the arborist refrain from using what's left of the trees? Whether one idea is of neccessity, and the other of innovation, I think the "lead" potential is debateable.
