Hug to a tree! In the year 1972 when the Indian government gave orders to a contractor to cut down some trees and use them for making furniture, certain village women near the himalayas devised and innovative plan to ward off the coming threat to the trees.
They all gathered in the forest and each one of them gave a tight hug to a tree! As they were clinging to the trees, the contractor could not cut down a single tree.
This was known as the famous chipko andolan meaning hug to a tree movement and till date is a very famous tool adopted by nature lovers across the nation to kill the motives of tree cutters.
Goes to show that if you really have the will...nothing can stop you from doing what you want even if it means fighting someone much more powerful than you...in this case the Indian government aided contractor... |
