Trees right at the front of a property, especially on a corner, have often had for sale signs on them. The most common backyard trees around here for nails etc are Coral, Camphor Laurel and Ficus. nice and soft to nail and good structure for tree house.
Have hit many funny things grown into trees. Horse reins and bit, car roof rack, axe head, bottles, water pipe (same reason as ekka's star pickets), scaffold bracket, insulators, etc. etc.
