Blakes is great in a workingt environment where you throw the line over a crotch and get to it. During recreational climbs, where I have the crotch rigged as a falsie with say, a micro pulley and a DMM Roller both, the line is just loose as a goose. At that point I have had the Blakes fail (not fail, falter) up high, or sometimes even from the very start. 5 wraps is better, for sure. But a VT or a Schwabisch is best when you don't have Mother Nature's friction thru the crotch. Of course if you use Safety Pro or any 12 strand the Blakes works like a dream.
